DESCRIPTION:Has it really been five years since the start of #lockdown #stayhome #pandemic? \nIt’s been both a difficult & beautiful time for me. How about you? \nDo you remember where you were when you first learned of this virus? \nWhat did you save from your time in quarantine? Show & Tell or Look & Listen. \nBring a photo or object from your Covid-19 collection and share its tale at our Show & Tales. \nDid you send more handwritten cards? Or make greeting cards and send them to your loved ones? I know I did! \nDid you make signs? #stayhome or #blacklivesmatter \nWere you the #designatedshopper? Are you keeping a journal or documenting your new life as a homeschooling leader/teacher and and and???? \nAre you writing songs or poetry about this time? \nVirtual museum visits or are you teaching or taking online classes you never thought you would before 2020? \nHave you bought some special things for yourself this year? SUMMARY:Things That Matter: What one Thing brings you joy\, magic & meaning?
DESCRIPTION:What photo or object would tell a bit of your life story?  \nWe KNOW that the best things in life aren’t things…. but Things have a way of holding memories of the people\, places & experiences that make up the best things in our lives…. our cherished memories. \nMy friend\, former editor-in-chief of Life magazine\, Bill Shapiro & his partner Naomi Wax\, traveled the country asking people a simple question “What Thing brings you joy\, magic & meaning?”  Their beautiful book What We Keep (link) is a deeply moving representation of how objects can hold our most significant stories. \nLook around your home\, your office\, your self…. Every Thing has a story… what Thing(s) tell yours? \nDon’t focus on your “valuable” things…. Bill & Naomi found that no-one chose the Thing that brought them joy\, magic & meaning held any monetary value. Bill & Naomi found “Our hearts are not accountants; we cling to the meaningful\, not the monetary.” \nJoin me\, founder Diana Dunbar\, members of my 333 Collective community & YOU my extended community for an eve of story-sharing about the Thing that matters.\nWhat we’ll do in our Zoom call (link) with Martie McNabb:  \nCome with your one Thing to the call.  Martie will facilitate a story-sharing — asking questions like: \n–  How did it come into your life? \n–  Why do you keep it? \n–  What can someone learn about you through the story of this “thing”? \n–  What do you want to happen with this “thing” when you die? \nLearn about the amazing 333 Collective community of passionate women 50+ & our first in-person gathering\, Quest 2024\, happening May 6th & 7th in Bristol\, RI.

SUMMARY:HIV & AIDS (World AIDS Day)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 6th Show & Tale in honor of World AIDS Day\, a date that originated in 1988 and has been a powerful reminder of HIV and AIDS ever since. We invite attendees to bring an object of importance to them as it relates to their past or present experience with HIV and AIDS. \nNot everyone has lost a loved one to this disease but almost everyone’s lives have been touched by it in one way or another. \nDo you have photos of the March on Washington or pieces of the AIDS Quilt? ACT-UP fliers\, magazine or newspaper clippings? Meeting notes\, poems & other pieces of your/their archive?  World AIDS Day not only enables us to memorialize those who have died\, but to raise awareness and show support for those living HIV+ lives. \nShow & Tale is like Antiques Roadshow meets The Moth\, or your favorite Pinterest board come to life! \nEveryone is welcome to share with a 3 minute time limit. No judges\, no prizes\, no competition. And no need to practice!  Just come and Show your object and share its Tale. \nJust want to come and listen? Awesome! Observers are always welcome.

SUMMARY:Soldiers\, Sailors & Civilians
DESCRIPTION:Show & Tell or Look & Listen. Every Thing has a story AND everyone is welcome. \nThe history of Veteran’s Day can be told through the many United States veterans who’ve served our country and its people in our military as well as their loved ones and other civilians. \nFrom our “veteran” veterans – those World War II veterans who fought on the beaches of Normandy or in the island-hopping campaign of the Pacific Islands\, and the vets of the Vietnam conflict\, on up through to those younger veterans who’ve served in our most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – all veterans & civilians have their stories to share about war. \nMost people keep a piece of that history – something connected to those stories – within their very homes – an object they’ve saved from their experience that bears witness to a past battle\, a picture that tells a tale of a more recent conflict\, a tattoo that honors a loved one lost\, a treasured letter from a loved one….or even a sharp interest in hearing about and seeing such objects shared in a friendly setting. \nEvery Thing has a story. \nShow & Tale is like Antiques Roadshow meets The Moth\, or your favorite Pinterest board come to life! \nEveryone is welcome – veteran & civilian alike – to share their stories with a 3 minute time limit. No judges\, no prizes\, no competition. And no need to practice! Just show your object and share its tale. Period. \nJust want to come and listen? Awesome! Observers are always welcome.

SUMMARY:Old\, New\, Borrowed & Blue
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an object or photo that tells the story of your own\, a loved ones or a pair-in-your-professional-care’s wedding bliss or bust?  \nFor millions of happy couples around the world\, royal or common\, gentile or jew\, straight or LGBTQ\, marriage remains an institute you simply can’t disparage. In our hi-tech\, disconnected\, smart and secular world it is still the celebration of that old-fashioned\, always in style\, crazy little thing called love that brings joy to the heart\, a skip in the step and a tear to the eye. \nWas there someone who missed joining in your special day because they had passed away? Would they have walked you down the aisle? Would they have joined you in the receiving line or sat next to you at the head table? Would they have planned your bachelor/ette party? \nHow will you or how did you find a way to include them in your celebration of love? \nHave you been a bride or a groom\, a bride’s-mate or best-man\, did you catch a bouquet? Or maybe you’re the officiant who declares the bond\, the photographer who captures the kiss\, or the caterer who carries in the cake. Bring your hat\, find that favor or slip on a long-lost garter and share your story of that special\, unforgettable Big Day. \nDing-dong the bells are gonna chime! \nThink Antiques Roadshow meets The Moth or Pinterest in person! \nEveryone is welcome to show & tell (if there’s time) or look & listen: No clap-o-meter\, no need to prepare\, no pressure to share. \nShow & Tales(R) in on a mission to build deeper connections\, community & legacy through the stories of the Things that matter.

SUMMARY:Hogs\, Heifers & Homesteads
DESCRIPTION:In honor of farmers\, farming and food\, join us for an evening of sharing your stuff & stories. \nDid you grow up on a farm? Did you show any animals at a country fair? Drive a tractor? Or bail hay? Did you join a community garden or roof-top urban farm? \nHave you worked on a farm? Do you know how to milk a cow? \nDo you pride yourself in knowing where your food comes from? Who picks it & delivers it? \nFarm unions & food coops? You get the picture…. Everything farm related has a story. \nWe would love to hear your stories\, or perhaps you would rather just listen to them\, it’s all good! \nFYI: While working on trademarking my business\, I found out I couldn’t ™ Show & Tales. My lawyer advised me to add something before S&T. I searched for months & finally found the word Thingtide. Thing’s are what we bring to my events & tide like the tide rolling in. It was perfect AND it’s the name of a Viking harvest gathering. The people gathered to make sure there was enough food for the community to make it through the long cold winters. I came across this in a book my Mom gave me called One Woman Farm by Jenna Woginrich. She has a little homestead in upstate NY called Cold Antler Farm. \nA quote from Jenna: “We need inspiration\, hope & tradition as much as we need calories.”

SUMMARY:My Favorite Thing (Family Edition)
DESCRIPTION:Let’s face it\, most of our homes are full of personal belongings including photos\, documents\, and memorabilia. But have you ever stopped to think whether you or your family members know the stories behind these things? \nJoin me & my friends from Novel Excursions on this journey of discovery buried in plain sight within & around our homes. \nDo you know why your child has that clay model on his/her/their window sill? Or that poster on the back of her/their/his bedroom door? \nDo you know why your parent keeps that ragged old apron hanging in the pantry? Those eye glasses on a kitchen self? What about the objects of seemingly more importance on the mantel or in a display case? \nThe world is a rich tapestry woven together by generations of stuff & stories. Each generation contributes & distributes an enduring legacy that springs us into a better tomorrow. The tales we tell bridge cultures\, span continents\, shape identity\, provide purpose\, and\, most of all\, build community. \nIn this divisive age\, it is important to look at the past\, not with rose-colored glasses but with humble appreciation. Take a walk with us on this multi-generational journey as we revel in our similarities\, celebrate our differences\, and find our place in this global family. \nAt our multi-generational Family Show & Tale\, we encourage you to explore your past\, enjoy your present\, and look forward to your future. \nCome tell your story through an object\, learn the lessons of generations past\, and find youthful inspiration. \nAnd\, as our friends at Novel Excursion Travel say\, your story is written one brave step at a time: Tell. Listen. Learn. You can see why we’ve partnered on these story-sharing gatherings…. Show. Share. Connect. \nAnd remember you are always welcome to look & listen. No one will be forced to share… but bring something along just in case you feel inspired. \nLet’s build connections within & between our families one story of stuff at a time.
